about Sarah

photo 3.jpg

At the end of 2019, Rose Ganguzza, a well known indie film producer, asked me what I wanted to work on. As a lifelong actor, I had never thought about the freedom of being able to choose what projects I worked on, I had always just "taken the job". It wasn't until the pandemic when I had started actually started asking myself that question: what did I want to work on?

I've always been passionate about stories of outsiders--the people who seemed always placed on the fringes of society or a group of people. Struggling most of my life to "fit in" or "belong", I grew more and more passionate to tell stories about identity and the journey to self acceptance and truly knowing oneself. Now, a few years later, I am so proud of the slate of work I'm putting into the world.

I'd love to help you tell your story. In my world, you already belong.

My Sundown

My Sundown is a full length feature film. When Mallory is diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer, she does what anyone would do...fire her doctor and move back in with her parents in Denver, CO. She decides it's the appropriate time to plan her own funeral, so she can attend while she's still alive. My Sundown is a of winter, not just in the literal sense that it takes place when there’s snow on the ground… but because it’s about an ending, and a new beginning. Winter is the time that we go inward and reflect. When we surrender our ability to “do” and “give” in exchange for the ability to “be.”

Thornfield

Set in contemporary Maine, Thornfield is a feature-length thriller inspired by Charlotte Brontë's Gothic novel, Jane Eyre: When an orphaned young photographer arrives in Maine to nanny for her art school professor’s daughter, she discovers a dark secret lurking in the attic that changes everything. In whatever, whatever, Gemma, eternally unlucky in let’s not even call it love, falls heart-first into her first queer relationship with Joz, a non-binary roller skating coach, who kisses as well as they skate. This feature is light, sexy and fun, but packs a tender punch, capturing all the messiness of letting someone—regardless of their identity— into your heart.

Shift/ing

Shift/ing is a long form television series, written and based off of the New York Times best selling book, Black White and Jewish by Rebecca Walker. Rebecca Levine is not a normal 15 year old, as a mixed race and Jewish girl raised in NYC in the 70s. But, one morning her parents announce their separation, and she suddenly goes from fitting in with her family, to her lifelong search of belonging.

Inconceivable

On a remote, baby-making vacation, Izy and Al get stuck in an infinite time loop by a mysterious (and rather shitty) board game that won’t let them leave until they win.  Izy -- the only one who can initially perceive the time jumps -- must figure out how to convince Al what’s happening and beat the game so they’re not stuck in a baby-less loop forever.

Identify

Chloe Blumenthal-Stone, 32, looks for love in all the worst addicts. At her sponsors urging, Chloe finds herself attending her first ever Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous meeting, of which, of course, she doesn't relate (she's only currently in a situationship with Finn Ketchum, who is, in fact, addicted to everything under the umbrella of sex, drugs, and alcohol). Not sure where Finn begins and she ends, Chloe finds herself on a self-identifying journey, riddled with questions, coincidences and a sprinkle of racism. Identify is a thirty minute dark comedy long form series, that will leave you trying to understand your own identity better.

Mary's Monster

Mary's Monster is a modern take on Mary Shelley's creation of Frankenstein. Here the Monster is her dark passenger, with her from childhood, as she becomes enthralled in the outer limits of gothic tales. The Monster is her alter ego and the exchanges with her and the Monster explore the complexities of human nature and the power of a creative mind. Her greatest fear becomes unleashing her Monster onto the world.
